Our kids are dam-raised and receive plenty of human interaction, and our does are very people-friendly. We feel this gives them the best opportunities to be well-socialized with both goats and humans. Kids are usually weaned and ready to go to their new home at about 10 - 12 weeks old. All of our kids start off with their dams, as we believe this gives them the best start for a long, happy, productive life. We try to teach all of our kids to take a bottle at a young age, just in case and it also makes separating moms and kids for milking much less stressful on everybody! So we can usually send kids home early at age 3-4 weeks to homes ready and able to take on the responsibilities of raising bottle babies. All disbuddings and castrations are done under full sedation.
We believe very firmly disbudding is important for the safety and welfare of both the goat and goat-owners. Therefore, we do not sell goats with horns, nor place our goats in situations where they will share the same housing and pens as horned goats (separate is fine though). We tried it, and after witnessing what can happen on our own farm in addition to talking to others who have also tried it, we feel it is unsafe and potentially cruel to keep a goat without horns with those that do, as they cannot defend themselves adequately.
Sales and Pricing: Doelings: Doelings typically start in the $250-$300 range, and go up from there. Doeling prices are influenced by a number of factors, such as genetics of sire and dam, overall quality and performance of sire and dam and any previous offspring. And of course, there's the quality of the doeling herself. In light of this, prices for doelings may not be set until after kidding for non-reserved kids.
Single doeling purchases only to homes that already have goats. A companion wether can be purchased with the doeling for $75, pending availability.
Bucklings: Bucklings will occasionally be available. As the best way of evaluating a buck's quality is through the accomplishments of his daughters, special pricing may be available to those with herds on DHIR test, regularly participating in Linear Appraisal, or active show herds. Please contact me for details!
Adult animals: At times I will need to reduce the herd to make room for new breeding stock. These animals will be listed on the For Sale page.
Wethers: Wethers are $100 each, $175 a pair. As goats are herd animals, single wethers can only go to homes that already have goats.
Reservations For unborn kids, a $50 deposit holds a reservation from the breeding of your choice; you can also put down a second choice (recommended). In the event the desired sex of kid you requested is not available from either the first or second choice, your deposit is refundable. You may also elect to transfer your deposit toward another breeding, up to a year later.
For live kids, a $100 deposit for doelings & bucklings, and a $25 deposit per wether will hold the kid until weaning (about 10 - 12 weeks of age), at which time the balance of the purchase price is due and arrangements for pick-up or delivery are to have been made.
On all sales and reservations: Please note deposits are non-refundable unless I cancel the sale, the requested sex of an unborn kid is not available, or the animal dies before pick-up, in which case I refund any monies paid. I do I reserve the right to cancel any sale or reservation at any time.
We will only allow animals to leave our property if visibly healthy; meaning, normal temperature, vitals, and bowel movements, no colored discharge from eyes or nose.
Kids sold as breeding stock are guaranteed free from of genetic defects causing infertility. Should a kid sold as breeding stock be found infertile due to a genetic defect, we will replace the kid with another kid of the same gender, as soon as one becomes available. Proof of exam and statement of findings from a licensed veterinarian, clearly stating a genetic defect or defect present at birth is the cause of infertility, must be submitted to us within 30 days of the date of the veterinarian's findings.
Payment: Cash, personal checks, and PayPal are all welcomed. Personal checks must clear our bank, usually 5 - 10 days, before we will release any animals.
Shipping and Transport: Delivery may be possible within 2 hours of the Vancouver, Washington area for a fee to cover fuel costs. Shipping available via air out of Portland, Oregon or other ground transport; buyers are responsible for any and all shipping and associated shipping costs. As each situation is unique, please contact me to discuss details regarding delivery or shipping.
